Welcome to ’Lifeforms!’—an ever-expanding exploration of the vast spectrum of existence, where fantastical creatures and obscure beings come to life. Inspired by folklore, myths, and legends, this series takes inspiration from a bygone era of fairy tale illustrations, reminiscent of the early 1900s. It was a time when fairy tales were unfiltered, raw, and sometimes even unsettling—unlike the sanitized “Disney” versions we often encounter today.

’Lifeforms! Series I: Nautical’ delves into the realm of maritime legends. Throughout history, tales of mythical monsters have veiled the sea in a mysterious aura. From the enchanting nymphs of ancient Greek mythology to the elusive Loch Ness monster and the colossal Kraken with tentacles reaching out like serpents, these legends have captured the imaginations of sea explorers. Even in modern times, the extreme depths of the sea remain largely unexplored, holding secrets yet to be revealed.

While I love the surreal and unexplained, I’m not a fan of horror. I prefer creatures that possess a certain kind of charm. However strange they may be, there is an inherent sense of camaraderie between these beings and humankind. They coexist harmoniously in a fairy tale cosmos, often taking the form of anthropomorphic hybrids, blending human and sealife characteristics. So, hop in the boat and join the exploration of these mesmerizing nautical lifeforms!
