Rainbow Portraits II: Flower Power

Info

Artwork In brief

The Rainbow Portraits series celebrates the diversity of gender roles by presenting a spectrum of LGBTQ+ identities, utilizing bold and vibrant colors inspired by the rainbow flag. Comprising three artworks, the series includes Rainbow Portraits I: Roleplay, Rainbow Portraits II: History / Flower Power, and Rainbow Portraits III: Fantastical Visions. Each piece delves into various aspects of gender diversity, exploring both past and the present, the playful nature of gender roles, and culminating in surreal staged settings that draw inspiration from disco, cabaret, exotic wildlife and more.

The concept of Pride Month originated from the historic Stonewall riots in 1969, a series of riots that sparked the gay liberation movement following a police raid on a gay bar in New York. The first Pride marches were organized in New York in 1970, over 50 years ago. ”Rainbow Portraits II: Flower Power”  transports us back to the era of flower power (1968-1970). These portraits envision authentic bohemian identity seekers from that era in serene rural settings, surrounded by picturesque flower fields and tranquil ponds. Visually, the series evokes a vintage aesthetic with its subdued colors, analog film tones, and a soft ethereal look.
