Info

Artwork In brief

“RAW Primitive” draws inspiration from the world of primitive rituals and masks. Employing a rough expressive ink drawing technique, a simple yet striking color palette, along with organic textures, it aims to capture the primal energy and raw emotion inherent in the spiritual communications.

Primitive masks found in many indigenous cultures often symbolized the connection to the spiritual world. Masks served as a medium for communication with ancestral spirits, deities, and the supernatural realm. ”RAW Primitive” draws cues from this intriguing realm of spiritual communications, visualizing it in raw, energetic, and symbolic ways.

Color played a significant role in the symbolism of primitive masks. “RAW Primitive” uses a simple palette of red, black, and white, where red might symbolize power, passion, or aggression; black might represent mystery, the unknown, or the transition between life and death; while white may symbolize purity, spirituality, or transcendence. Along with the interplay of colors, bursting rays are used to highlight the links between the natural and supernatural worlds.

Masks often featured a blend of human and animal features, carrying symbolic meanings such as the agility of a leopard or the playfulness of a monkey. Strong facial expressions and exaggerated features were also common, conveying specific emotions and qualities. Select images in “RAW Primitive” draw inspiration from the rich animal symbolism and playfully deconstruct facial features.
